Fluoride will not be added to Bolton’s water

06 June 2014

Adding fluoride to Bolton’s water supply has been ruled out by health bosses, despite advice from Public Health England (PHE) that it could improve people’s dental health.

The Government have no plans for an international group of consultants to examine the use of fluoride in public water schemes, despite promises by a minister that this would be done.

Junior health minister Alex White has said that there are no plans for such a consortium to examine fluoride in water and a Government-commissioned review will instead examine concerns.

His comments come despite a previous promise by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney that the matter would be investigated by international consultants.

Mr Coveney made the pledge to Fine Gael councillors in March just before they voted to ban the use of fluoride in county schemes.

His promise was made behind doors to party councillors at a meeting in Cork.

Councillors had written to Health Minister James Reilly urging him to stop fluoridation.

But Mr White, in a written parliamentary response to Independent TD Denis Naughten, said there were “no plans” to establish such a group.

Mr White said his department kept the policy of water fluoridation under constant review and that a review on fluoridation was being conducted by the Health Research Board.

Buffalo, Missouri Wednesday, May 14,
Citing high costs that continually raise water prices for local customers, the Board of Aldermen in Buffalo, Missouri, a small town just north of Springfield, recently made the decision to stop fluoridating the public water supply. Members of the board explained that transporting fluoride chemicals is damaging city equipment and trucks, not to mention water pipes that corrode as a result of fluoride exposure.

“It’s an acid and it eats the pipes,” stated a city engineer from the city of Union, outside St. Louis, about the nature of fluoride. Like Buffalo, Union’s Board of Aldermen recently voted 7-1 to end fluoridation after injection equipment was destroyed by its use. “Employees are handling it and they don’t want to be.”

A.Natural News’ article made two points:

Science has proven fluoride’s neurotoxicity Practically speaking, adding fluoride to public water makes no sense, either financially or logistically. ..fluoride… is destroying city water pipes and transport equipment. But it is also destroying people’s brains, as evidenced by a cohort of published science.

“Fluoride seems to fit in with lead, mercury, and other poisons that cause chemical brain drain,” explained the researchers of a 2012 study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP). A review of the study, is available at  http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/features/fl… “The effect of each toxicant may seem small, but the combined damage on a population scale can be serious, especially because the brain power of the next generation is crucial to all of us.”

Fluoride is forced medication that can’t be properly dosed  Even if fluoride did help prevent tooth decay, adding it to water is a form of forced, mass medication. As pointed out by officials from other towns and cities across the country, many of which have also ended their fluoridation programs, there is no way to safely and properly dose fluoride when adding it to water, which puts many people at risk.

“It comes down to choice,” explained commission Gene Towne from Boyne City, Michigan, which recently voted to end its 40-year fluoridation program. “I don’t see how you can control the dosage (of fluoride that people ingest) if it’s in everything. If there’s a chance that it could cause any health problems … this should all come down to your choice.”

Fluorine as a factor in premature aging.

[Article in Polish]

Machoy-Mokrzyńska A.

The use of fluorine compounds in various areas of medicine, particularly in dentistry, as well as in agriculture and industry became very popular in the second half of the 20th century. Fluorine owed this widespread acceptance to observations that its compounds stimulate ossification processes and reduce the prevalence of caries. Unfortunately, growing expectations overshadowed the truth regarding interactions of fluoride on the molecular level. The fact was often ignored that fluoride is toxic, even though laboratory data stood for a careful approach to the benefits of usage. Excessive exposure to fluoride may lead to acute poisoning, hyperemia, cerebral edema, and degeneration of the liver and kidneys. Acute intoxication through the airways produces coughing, choking, and chills, followed by fever and pulmonary edema. Concentrated solutions of fluorine compounds produce difficult to heal necrotic lesions. In spite of these dramatic symptoms, acute intoxications are relatively rare; the more common finding is chronic intoxication attributable to the universal presence of fluorine compounds in the environment. The first noticeable signs of excessive exposure to fluoride in contaminated water, air, and food products include discolorations of the enamel. Dental fluorosis during tooth growth and loss of dentition in adulthood are two consequences of chronic intoxication with fluorine compounds. Abnormalities in mineralization processes affect by and large the osteoarticular system and are associated with changes in the density and structure of the bone presenting as irregular mineralization of the osteoid. Fluorine compounds also act on the organic part of supporting tissues, including collagen and other proteins, and on cells of the connective tissue. These interactions reduce the content of collagen proteins, modify the structure and regularity of collagen fibers, and induce mineralization of collagen. Interactions with cells produce transient activation of osteoblasts, stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagenase, and trigger toxic reactions in osteocytes and chondrocytes of trabecular bone. Growing deformations of the skeleton reduce mobility and result in permanent crippling of the patient. Fluoride increases the mass of non-collagen proteins such as proteoglycans and glucosaminoglycans, accelerating skin aging even though protein biosynthesis is generally suppressed. The final outcome includes progressive vascular lesions and disorders of energy metabolism in muscles. In conclusions, the use of fluoride, particularly by dentists and pediatricians, must be controlled and adapted to individual needs. It is worth remembering that fluoride: is the cause of disability due to bone deformations and abnormalities in the musculoskeletal system; reduces the incidence of caries but do not protect against tooth loss; exerts an adverse effect of metabolic processes in the skin; accelerates calcification of vessels and thus reduces their elasticity; inhibits bioenergetic reactions, in particular oxidative phosphorylation, reducing physical activity of muscles. These findings suggest that fluorine may be yet another factor in accelerated aging and revive the dispute started more than two and half thousand years ago whether aging is a physiologic or pathologic process. The understanding of factors modifying the process of aging is the basis for preventive measures aimed at extending life and maintaining full psychosocial activity.

Fluoride Me NOT

Magnesium is at the very center of the body’s reactions to fluoride from all sources. Fluoride “chelates” (chemically “grabs”) magnesium in the body, making the magnesium unavailable for its many functions. Magnesium in turn, protects against fluoride toxicity.

As John Marier put it in a paper presented to dentists at the University of Kuopio in Finland in 1979, “… the toxic effects-of fluoride [are] a direct function of the severity of the magnesium deficiency. Thus, very low levels of dietary fluoride are toxic at ultra-low levels of dietary magnesium, whereas much higher levels of fluoride are innocuous when dietary magnesium is increased.”

Historic :

On June 29th, 2000, Dr. William Hirzy was invited to give testimony to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, and Water on behalf of the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) Chapter 280 – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Headquarters.

At the time, Dr. Hirzy was serving his sixth term as the Senior Vice-President of the Union. His presentation that day was, “Why EPA’s Union of Professionals Opposes Fluoridation.” This is a video that documents the presentation along with interviews with Dr. Hirzy where he describes the reasoning behind the professional and official stance of his Union members in direct opposition to the EPA’s administrative support of fluoridation.

The content of this presentation is a real eye opener. It and other papers of concern from the Union can be viewed in text form at:   http://www.nteu280.org/Issues/Fluoride/fluoridesummary.htm
